Across the bay from Downtown San Diego is the highly coveted community of Coronado Island. Nicknamed The Crown City (Coronado is Spanish for “the crowned one”), the “island” actually connects to mainland San Diego via a 10-mile isthmus called the Silver Strand. The Silver Strand is home to some of Coronado’s—and San Diego’s—most luxurious real estate, a neighborhood called the Coronado Cays. This impressive enclave features waterfront homes with private boat docks and breathtaking views of Downtown San Diego and the Pacific Ocean. North of the Silver Strand lies another neighborhood, Coronado Village, which boasts historic homes and lush parks, all within walking distance of schools and the island’s delightful downtown district. The city of Coronado is a popular tourist destination for local and foreign visitors, most of whom come specifically to tour the famous Hotel del Coronado and lounge on its pristine, white sand beaches.
